Our Story
Windmill Rabbits began in the spring of 2013 when a little girl, with an amazing ability to work with animals, decided to raise Netherland Dwarf Rabbits. So after studying the Standard of Perfection for the breed, visiting several breeders, and joining the local 4-H Club, she chose the first five rabbits with which to begin her journey. Coming from Hamilton, Michigan, she decided to name her place, Windmill Rabbits.
We are proud members of the American Rabbit Breeders Association, Inc. (ARBA), the American Netherland Dwarf Rabbit Club (ANDRC), Mallory is a Master Breeder, and the Lop Rabbit Club of America (LRCA)

Two additional rabbits joined the family in early 2014. Pip, a Sable Marten buck from Doug and Molly Covert, and Dreamer, a Black Silver Marten doe from Diana Swihart. Unfortunately, Mallory experienced her first loss with the death of Sapphira in May, 2014 while she was giving birth.
On July 19, 2014, we purchased the herd from Otter's Way who had chosen to discontinue with their rabbit business. This brought some additional outstanding lines to our existing rabbits including thicker bone and proportionate heads.

In March, 2015, we purchased 9 rabbits (2 bucks and 7 does) from Stephanie Suppes and Bad Habbitry. These rabbits have added some beauty and type to our herd and we are excited to see what new heights the breeding program reaches. (See Buck and Doe pages).
In January, 2017, Mallory bought her first English Lop rabbit to begin a new project for 4-H. Although her mother was hesitant at first to bring in a second breed to work with, Mallory insisted that it was the right thing to do, and she was correct. The English Lops have taken over in the rabbitry, and in 2019, the duo made the decision to discontinue showing Netherland Dwarfs and downsize their numbers, and focus on the Lop program. Lines that have been incorporated into our program are Mann's Lavender Hill, RAR's, Young Buns, Trina's, and Chumley's.
In June of 2019, the family moved the rabbitry to Abbeville, South Carolina. Mallory would like to thank the Mann family and Mann's Lavender Hill Rabbits for their help in developing her ELop program. In 2020-2021, Jodi was 7th place top showman Nationally in the Lop Rabbit Club of America, and Windmill's Driftwood placed in the top 20 rabbits Nationally. There were also several Windmill rabbits successfully competing in the youth category.
Just an FYI, if you want to check out a website with EVERYTHING you need for a rabbit, I highly recommend The Nature Trail. http://www.thenaturetrail.com/ Another one is http://mosaicrabbitry.weebly.com/
